Our beginning
AM Consulting Engineers (est. 2021), based in Belfast, Cork and Coventry was founded by Aidan McCarthy, a Chartered Civil Engineer (BEng (Hons) CEng FIEI) with 20+years’ experience in the delivery of major civil engineering projects in the water, transportation, flooding, and infrastructure sectors in Ireland, UK, and the Middle East (UAE, Iraq and Saudi Arabia). He has held Director level positions with multi-national engineering consultancies, accountable for strategic planning, client/business development, team restructuring and effective delivery of challenging civil engineering projects. Aidan has strong leadership qualities, and a blend of technical and commercial skills that enable the cost-effective delivery of civil engineering projects.
Expansion
Growing Our Capability
In January 2026, AM Consulting Engineers acquired UK-based civil and structural engineering firm Bridges Pound Ltd, doubling our workforce to 40 employees and strengthening our engineering capability across the UK market.
Coventry-based Bridges Pound has been delivering civil and structural engineering services for over 40 years, working nationwide for developers, contractors, and local authorities. The acquisition brings complementary expertise and expands our sector reach to include hotel, education, and major infrastructure projects alongside our established water, wastewater, and transportation portfolio.
This milestone builds on our continued investment in growth, following our move to new headquarters at Jennymount Business Park in Belfast and ongoing expansion of our Cork office. It also reflects the progress made through Invest NI’s Ambition to Grow Programme and Export Growth Programme, which have supported our development and export plans since 2023.
Together, we are well positioned to support critical infrastructure investment across Northern Ireland, Ireland, Great Britain, and beyond.

We are committed to building a business that is innovative and driven towards creative solutions. With a focus on sustainability, we are keen to improve designs by considering green materials; reducing carbon impact; and incorporating energy efficient processes.
