Project: Terryland Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Intake Works Project
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Coffey on this Design-Build project that included construction of a new raw water intake on the River Corrib at Terryland and new 1,200mm diameter transfer main between the proposed new intake works and the existing raw water transfer main, including micro-tunnelled crossing of N6. The project will ensure the existing WTP never runs out of water and will result in a reliable, safe, and secure source of drinking water supply is provided for Galway City and surrounding area.

Project: IDA Belview Business & Technology Park – Upgrade of Timber Decked Boardwalk
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Donnelly Civil Engineering LTD (DECL) on this Design-Build project that replaced an existing timber boardwalk at the entrance to the IDA Belview Business & Technology Park. The Park is home to two Glanbia Plants as well as the main Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) for Waterford City. The original timber boardwalk structure was deteriorated and in a state of dilapidation. The scope of the works was to replace it with a new contractor designed structure.

Project: Enfield Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Coffey on this Design-Build project that upgraded of the existing WWTP from 3,500PE to 6,200PE to include new final settling tanks, sludge holding tanks, multiple interstage pumping stations, 11Nr. sludge drying reed beds, significant lengths of pressurised and gravity pipelines networks as part of the treatment process upgrade works.
The project also included significant site development works including access roads, SUDS drainage, trenchless pipeline installations under the River Blackwater, erosion protection works to the River Blackwater, flood protection works and watercourse diversion with box culvert crossing. The upgraded WWTP will also provide a sludge import facility to support smaller WWTP’s in the environs to manage sludge production and disposal. The imported sludge will be blended and discharged to the SDRB’s providing a sustainable, long-term, and robust natural treatment process in which the reeds naturally treat sludge.

Project: Oxford Digesters
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with GEL Engineering on this Design-Build project that upgrades existing sludge digesters to enable a change to sludge processing and gas production. Existing sludge holding tanks were upgraded to increase the side wall heights and install gas bags/processing pipework, perimeter high level walkways and platforms, drainage and ducting.

Project: Runleywood Water Treatment Plant Expansion
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Enisca on this Design-Build project. The expansion involved earthworks, pipework, and reinforced concrete to increase capacity and facilitate the extension of the existing plant. This project is an effort by Affinity Water to improve water treatment infrastructure in the Luton area, with the goal of meeting future water supply needs.

Project: Newtown Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Upgrade
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Glanua on this ECI and Design-Build project that upgrades the existing water treatment plant (WTP) to modernise and improve the water treatment process at the plant, ensuring raw water is treated to the highest of water quality standards as required by the European Union Council Directive. The project will also benefit over 26,000 customers, ensuring the continued delivery of clean, safe drinking water to the town.
The upgrades will significantly improve drinking water quality, reliability and resilience of the water supply serving Wexford Town as well as greatly reducing the risk of any future boil water notices. The works will also help facilitate the removal of the Wexford Town Water Supply Scheme from the EPA’s list of ‘at risk’ supplies from the Remedial Action List (RAL).

Project: Enfield Reservoir
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Coffey on this Design-Build project that included construction of a new treated water storage reservoir in Enfield (County Meath) to provide storage and security of supply to Enfield and its environs. The project included a new storage reservoir, booster pumping station, borehole upgrade, site infrastructure works, drainage and integration with existing water treatment plant systems and processes.

Project: Ballycotton Sewerage Scheme
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Glanua on this ECI and Design-Build project that included a new wastewater treatment plant, 2No. large sewage pumping stations, significant lengths of gravity and pumped sewers, new public amenity facilities at Ballycotton pier, and a new access road.
Ballycotton is a small fishing village overlooking Ballycotton Bay and is surrounded by sandy beaches. This project is needed to protect coastal waters and end untreated wastewater being discharged directly into Ballycotton Bay. The scheme will provide significant environmental benefits by ending the discharge of over 860 wheelie bins of raw sewage into Ballycotton Bay per day and will ensure that wastewater discharges into the bay meet appropriate standards.

Project: Mount Juliet Estate Wastewater Pumping Station
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Donnelly Civil Engineering LTD (DECL) on this Design-Build project that included construction of a new terminal wastewater pumping station and storm storage tank, new gravity sewers, new rising mains (including a trenchless crossing of the River Nore), new package pumping station serving a small number of properties and abandonment of obsolete existing infrastructure. The site is located within a prestigious golf resort which required careful design and ongoing liaison to ensure ongoing operation of the golf course during construction works.

Project: NI Water – Watermain Rehabilitation Project
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with BSG on this Design-Build project that included rehabilitation of 85km of existing watermains across Northern Ireland on a number of works packages. We work with BSG to confirm site investigation requirements, existing utility locations, design requirements, wayleave requirements, stream/culvert crossings and coordinate the production of site pack information for site investigatory and subsequent construction works.
NI Water aims to upgrade the ageing water mains system by renewing pipes and addressing problems such as bursts, poor pressure and leaks. Work is also necessary to improve water quality, to ensure sufficient capacity to meet future demands and to comply with all current National and European environmental regulation.

Project: Tully Stream Bridge – N16 Lugatober
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Bam Contractors to develop a value engineered structures design for the road bridge structures on N16 Lugatober (Drumkilsellagh to Lugnagall) Road Development Scheme.
The value engineered solution includes a precast concrete BEBO Arch Bridge springing from buried in-situ concrete foundation, and VSol precast reinforced soil wingwall system. As well as the reduced risk in construction, the single span arch provides an open, natural, riverbed channel with less environmental impact. The proposal has no bearings, and as such requires minimal maintenance throughout its design life, and being an arch bridge, is the most robust bridge form possible. Furthermore, the precast off-site manufacture of the main elements ensures a high-quality structure.
AMCE also provided hydraulic modelling and flood risk assessment to support a value engineering solutions that amended box culverts to pipe culverts.

Project: Haworth Grange Railway Bridge at Junction 33 of the Rotherham to Sheffield M1
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with HML Construction to complete a “General Inspection” of a 4-span bridge underpass structure (in accordance with DMRB CS 450) to advise Highways England of the existing structural defects and deteriorations to the underpass structure. This assessment was completed in advance of the proposed construction works associated with the new Welcome Break development. We also undertook the design, detailing and Category 1 check co-ordination for a temporary Rebloc Vehicular Restraint Barrier through the underpass for the construction works phase.

Project: Antrim Area Hospital Carpark
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with McAdam Design to provide structural design support on a 2-storey reinforced concrete car park with clear spans of 18.5m. The project also included a complex arrangement of reinforced concrete cantilevered retaining walls to level the sloping site, and two staircase/lift core buildings to provide access between the hospital buildings and the car park decks.

Project: University Road, Belfast – Insurance Assessment Inputs
About: AM Consulting Engineers provided structural investigation and assessment for an insurance claim on a 4-storey city centre commercial property. The property had been severely damaged following a significant fire in a neighbouring building. We undertook a number of condition surveys throughout the project to monitor structural deteriorations. We completed structural concept designs to assist evaluation of building reinstatement costs and developed a significant temporary works solution to allow facade retention costs to be understood.

Project: Welcome Break, Rotherham
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with FK Lowry to provide detailed design of piled foundations for the main structure within the new motorway service station situated at Junction 33 on the M1 Northbound at Rotherham. The design included 229No. 270mm square concrete precast piles to accommodate the superstructure loads.
Pile design was carried out in accordance with BS EN 1997. Pile lengths ranged between 9.0m and 15.0m depending on design pile action and encountered rockhead level. Scope of works included review pile as built information and pile testing data.

Project: Mowhan Street, Belfast – UTX
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with AG Wilson to provide geotechnical design for an under track crossing (UTX) of the main Belfast-Dublin railway line. The crossing will be installed using guided auger bore drilling to facilitate a new 225mm diameter NI Water storm sewer approximately 30m long between Mowhan Street and Boucher Road.
Scope included the settlement analysis and determination of influence on the existing Translink railway tracks due to the pipe installation works and structural design checks on the proposed pipe. AMCE also carried out the full Translink technical approval and submission in accordance with I/STR/STD/003 “Engineering Assurance of Civil Engineering Works”.

Project: Tinahely Co. Wicklow, Residential Properties – soil stabilisation
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with Celtic Soil Solutions and TA Group to provide detailed design and analysis for a soil stabilisation solution to prepare a suitable bearing strate for a development site of 10No. residential properties at a site in Wicklow.
AMCE carried out a full review of the laboratory testing on the parent material to assess suitability. A full scope of testing was completed for the parent material along with trial binder mixes to assess the design required. Based on the testing carried out a soil stabilisation Geotechnical Design Report was completed. During the works site testing was reviewed and the design updated to include test results.

Project: North West Greenway
About: AM Consulting Engineers worked with ProDrive Ireland to provide detailed design of load bearing piles as part of the development works at the North West Greenway. The 350mm square concrete precast piles transferred compression and lateral loads from the bridge structure and were 17.5m long at the East abutment and 19.5m long at the West abutment.
